"I make paintings about my experiences of people and places"
Making art gives me opportunities to connect deeply with my feelings about what is going on within and around me. I express ideas using improvised forms and layers of colour. After graduating in Fine Art from the University of the West of England in 1994 and then Cardiff Institute in 1999, I explored a number of traditional and contemporary art forms and found that I most enjoy painting. My many influences range from modern art traditions including Cubism and British and American Abstract Expressionism. I work on both large and small compositions, using many layers of mark-making, then scrape them back to reveal the complex history of the painting beneath its surface. I exhibit regularly in solo and group contexts, where my work can be viewed in person, or alternatively at my studio in Cirencester or at Redlees Studios in Isleworth, West London. As well as painting, I have many years experience of tutoring adults to develop their painting skills, individually or in groups. Details of current courses can be found by visiting the Painting Zone website.
