"I make paintings about my experiences of people and places"
Making art gives me opportunities to connect deeply with my feelings about what is going on within and around me. I express ideas using improvised forms and layers of colour. During my Fine Art studies during the 1990s, I explored a number of traditional and contemporary art forms and found that I love to paint. I graduated with a B.A. in Fine Art from the University of the West of England, followed by a Masters from the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff, My main influences range from modern art traditions including Cubism and British and American Abstract Expressionism. I work on a range of large and smaller compositions, using many layers of mark-making, then scraping them back to reveal the complex history of the marks, colour, fragments of stories and design beneath the surface. I exhibit regularly in solo and group contexts in Cirencester and London.
As well as painting, I have many years experience of tutoring adults, helping others to develop basic and more advanced painting and creativity skills. Details of current available tuition and courses can be found by visiting the Painting Zone website.
